Lesson Implementations

Ok, thus far this semester I have learned about new tech tools that I wasn't completely aware of. This is exciting but also a little intimitating. I see the value of these tools in the classroom, but I am still finding it a little challenging to find the right fit. I am taking baby steps in using these tools.

Blogs, Wikis, Podcasting, Digital Video....I see this as the next natural step in working with this and upcoming generations of students. These students see technology not as a tool, but more as a foundation to their everyday life. Therefore, it is imperative that we as teachers use their "language" when teaching them content.

I admitted this in another blog: I'm with you, Matt. I'm intimidated by new technologies. I believe that if I didn't have this program or job, I may not be pushing my way up to the front of the line to start using these new tools. I'm still in the thinking mode about this. However, the work that the ITSers have done this semester has nearly convinced me that each of these tools affords important critical thinking skills....that is, if the tools is used appropriately.
When we developed this course in January, Priscilla and I spent lots of time hashing out the uses, the value, etc. Those were similar conversations that are going on in these blogs.
It is very important to have conversations among colleagues. Have you found this valuable in your thinking about these tools?

I too have to admit that these new technologies are intimidating. The one thing that I battle with is how much time will I allot to students in the lab using these various technologies and how much time will I allot to students being actively engaged in physical activity. Today, physical educators have more and more pressure put on them to tackle the growing epidemic of obesity and physical inactivity in US youth. I know that next year our Instructional Supervisor is looking to have the amount of time students spend in Health Education decreased to allow students more hours per week engaging in some form of physical activity. This decrease will affect my ability to effectively integrate technologies in the health classroom because of time restrictions/guidelines. So, I have been trying to brainstorm, when I can, some ideas in Physical Education for next year. I have some good Health ideas but they require more time in the classroom to effectively get the desired outcome. Any suggestions?
